And body here use it, presently or in the past?

I have a lot of music the was acquired "elsewhere" years ago and it is not labeled or organized very well. Thinking about giving this a try to basically clean up my library. I recently got a new computer and the music is on an external drive. Before I dump it all in iTunes and make another mess, I'd like to get it organized. I'm kind of OCD, but I don't really want to spend the time messing with all the metadata. Any suggestions?

I also like the idea of having it stored in the cloud across all my devices and the iTunes Radio without commercials is also a plus.

I use it, but I'm canceling now that Apple Music makes it obsolete.

It doesn't make it obsolete if you have a bunch of bootlegs and live albums.

Haven't really looked into that before. I'll check it out.

How has your success been transferring your music and exchanging it with the iTunes versions? Were there a lot of songs that iTunes didn't have? Lastly, if your files are labeled all that great, how does iTunes know which song it is, it does it? im definitely considering trying it out. Worst case I'm out $25.

iTunes Match does not put DRM on your music. Apple Music does put DRM on your music.

I wouldn't use iTunes Match to clean up your metadata. I'm not so sure it would change any of it. There are programs that do though.

Found this. Will post the link next:

Similarly, while I've found that iTunes Match and Google Music often do a great job of figuring out what that mislabeled track is, it doesn't update its metadata in my music library.

I have an old school 5th Gen Video iPod-the first to have "video" (this is circa 2005 when they first came out). It's got an amazing amount of old music that's mislabeled in four-alpha format (IE a bunch of songs I know and love but got jacked up with titles like AAAA, ABXW, CDHE, etc for a naming convention).

I'm wondering if I buy a new laptop (which I'm on the market for) and then download the latest version of iTunes, back up my iPhone and my on-board music collection there, with iTunes Match (I've been a customer since the first day) and then connect this old iPod if iTunes would scan it and clean up the titles for me using iTunes Match?

No. iTunes Match does not clean up metadata.

I had it before and kept going back and forth on whether I would keep it or not now that I have Apple Music. It seems in the settings whenever I look it up "iTunes in the Cloud" and "iTunes match" are synonymous.
Anyway, I stopped the auto renewal for Match but until Sept I won't know what the difference will be. I'm guessing I just won't be able to see the music on my computer from my phone anymore unless i physically put the file there?

And I may keep misunderstanding...but I thought the iTunes match really only streams the iTunes version of whatever downloaded song you had. As far as bootlegs and other things, i thought you didn't need Match for that...it was just uploaded to your cloud anyway.

Hmmm, from what I've read, apple lets you download (for free) their version of the song from iTunes. (If you upload a song they have).

I was assuming their metadata would be perfect. So what am I missing here? It sounded too good to be true, so that's why I'm here.

I had a song on my iPhone that isnt available for purchase on iTunes [downloaded it off YouTube]. The update removed it from my phone. How do I get it back on there?
Bump.

The song is still in iTunes but when I try to send it to the cloud it says "This item is not eligible for the iCloud Music Library."

I posted this on the OT but didn't get any responses. Y'all got any ideas? My problem sounds like what you're talking about colorchangingtiger

This is true, but it doesn't change the metadata you have.

iTunes Match (the entire service) matches songs in your library to what apple has. Songs it can't match are uploaded to be available for stream. If you cancel iTunes Match, it will delete all of your songs off the servers and unmatch your library.

Which is why I won't be canceling iTunes Match in favor of Apple radio. Although I have my music backed up on an external, I like having everything in the cloud as well for just $25/yr. Whether I want apple radio in addition is a separate decision.

I know it won't change the metadata on my files, but does the service not include downloading apples files, which would have their metadata?

It seems like from what I've read, that is the case, but again - I'm not 100% clear on that.

I have it, and love it. The larger your music library, the more convenient it is. I have all my music on all of my devices, and even on my pc at work.
