magic jack works ok if you are using it for light purposes. if you are using your phone a lot, I would recommend a better service. Vonage has some issues with it, and is not unlimited. I use comcast service since they gave it to me for free. No issues with that service, but comcast does suck a bag of dicks.

Fwiw, I just tried to sign up and there are no NY or NJ numbers left
I just counted 250 GV numbers for NYC before I stopped scrolling. NJ area codes 201, 732, 908, 609 all had a ton of numbers available.

nor are there 504 or 337 either.
Here's what I'm showing...

(985) 720-0519
Montegut, LA
(985) 720-0527
Montegut, LA
(985) 720-0538
Montegut, LA
(985) 720-0593
Montegut, LA
(985) 720-0608
Montegut, LA

(This is just one page; I get about 50 of these for 985)

Here's what I get for 337:
(337) 409-9832
Vinton, LA
(just one number)

You are correct about A/C 504

If you want to keep your landline number and block telemarketers. Ooma is the shite, crowd sourced blacklist and all you pay is your area taxes a month, usually just a few dollars

It worked great for me when I was living in Thailand. I could call back to the US free and it was pretty clear. Price is good for the MJ service.
