I bought my vizio 60 in smart at Best Buy for $999.00 last year. Same one is on sale for 799.00 now.

Great TV. Haven't had any problems.

Look for these annual March Madness sales.

Can usually catch some pretty good deals.

4k TVs are making prices on regular HD TVs drop a good bit. The same Samsung 55" LED Smart TV I got around 4 years ago for ~ $1500 is probably well below 1k by now

You can probably get something great in that size for under $800.

As long as you're not looking for a smart TV or 4k/Ultra HD TV, you should be able to find a lot for that price.

We are looking at TVs right now, and are refusing to look at smart TVs. Call us paranoid, but the fact that Samsung has released TVs that have pop up ads and record what is said in your home, it has turned us off that line of TVs.

Looking at 55" and have found prices as low as $600.

I have a Samsung Smart TV currently and am pretty unhappy with it. From time to time vertical lines will just pop up on the screen, and the TV shuts off and comes back on.

Haven't had any pop-ups, though I only us the Smart part to stream netflix and youtube. I had a Samsung plasma from around 2007, and that one is still going strong.

I'm really liking the Sony UHD Smart TV. I also like the curved 55 inch Samsung, but am not too happy with Samsung right now.

I've heard a lot of negative about Samsung and their newest TVs. It's a shame because they have always been a solid brand.

OP, we have a smaller Sanyo for basic TV watching that has done the job. I know they have some larger TVs (50-55) around the $500 mark if you want to be frugal. So do Hitachi and Vizio.

LG and Sony have some around $750.

Check out Amazon

My Dad has two of them. Both 70 inches. I don't think he's ever even used the Smart functions. He just wanted one for a large built in cabinet, and bought the biggest one that would fit. And bought an identical one to hang on the wall in the den in the basement. So I can't say anything about the Smart aspect of it, but the TV itself is great. Both were bought in 2012.

Samsung has confirmed that its smart TVs are erroneously inserting pop-up video adverts into television and movies played through third-party apps.

The admission comes in a week that Samsung was forced to change its smart TV privacy policy, which indicated the TV could be recording conversations and sending them to third parties, provoking “Orwellian” complaints from critics.

If you want something future proof - I might wait until prices drop on 4k sets - if you're ready to just make the best buy you can today for your budget - yeah - now is a pretty good time to buy.

(And, as far as waiting - there is always an argument to wait - you can wait forever, or until your current setup is non-functional or completely obsolete if you extend the thinking out far enough.)
