Is a 3.1 sound bar that much better than a 2.1?

I know you get a dedicated center speaker with 3.1, but does it really make that much of a difference?

Depending on how far away you are, 2.1, 3.1, and 1.1 can sound pretty similar.

Doubt it’s big enough of a difference to decide between them based on the number of channels alone.
