I typically just use my Ipod in my vehicle and I'm having issues with the sound which I have narrowed to the Ipod auxiliary port. When the cord plugs into the Ipod, the sound will go in and out with some of the speakers. I thought it was an issue with the auxiliary cable itself but I purchased a new one and it is doing the same thing. Moving the Ipod and particularly the auxiliary cable at the connection point with the Ipod causes the sound to dramatically fluctuate from the speakers. At most points the sound is hardly coming out of the left speakers at all. It hasn't had any water damage but it is probably over 5 years old.

Any tips for resolving this issue or is the Ipod kaput?

Try cleaning out the port.

It looks fine in there to begin with but I wouldn't even know how to go about cleaning it.

Use a paper clip with a little tp at the end. Mine was acting like it was eternally plugged into headphones so it would not play out loud.

Either what wrestler said (be careful about depositing lint in there though) or maybe some canned air but hit the port at a steep angle and not too close. You just want to gently remove whatever is disrupting the connection.

Will purchase some air duster and give it a shot. My Google efforts have turned up little except manually taking the thing apart, which apparently is a colossal pain in the arse and holds serious risk of permanently fricking shite up.
