Am I misunderstanding the DND feature? I have it turned on for a group text I am in, but I still get popup notifications.

Am I doing it wrong?

is it giving an alert sound too? because I'm pretty sure DND only turns off sound notifications.

I'm always on vibrate...but I'll check it out. If so, what a dumb feature.

I think ALL of the members of the "group" have to be on iOS 8 (at least, perhaps, the ones you wish to silence / block)

Found this:

quote:

Remember that you can only leave group messages if all participants are using iMessage and running iOS 8 or higher. Since Apple doesn't have access to block or remove you from carrier messages, iMessage threads are the only thing they can remove you from on their end. The Leave This Conversation option will be grayed out like you see above if someone in the thread is running an older version of iOS. If the bubbles are green, you won't be able to remove yourself since those are regular text messages.

The purpose of DND is to halt all sounds from your phone either manually or at certain times of the night. It's pretty convenient for people who need to screen their phone calls in the middle of the night (read: don't want your drunk college friends waking you at 0300, but would like to get calls from your answering service for work). It's also nice for getting rid of ESPN or Words With Friends or whatever other app you may allow push notifications with sound on but would like shut off at a certain time, typically when you're trying to sleep. So I set mine to DND from around 2200-0400. I rarely get useful texts from coworkers from then that can't wait until I wake up shortly after that. I also typically allow coworkers to get through on the first call.

It shouldn't/isn't designed to stop you from getting notifications from anything that attempts to make noise on your phone during the scheduled/manually "DND" hours.

Yeah, because my phone sounding off at 230 AM (and waking me up) to let me know I got a email from ATT telling me about their current offers is awesome.

I'm talking about the DND on group text only.
