Just bought a house out near the corner of Jefferson Hwy and Highland. Cutting the cord so cable is not part of the equation. I just need internet. Who would you recommend going with and why?

Cox and it's not even a debate, and i hate Cox, but i hate AT&T more.
Especially if you're cutting the cord, i woudn't want to rely on the 3-9MBps you get from AT&shite. Sure it's cheap, but there's a reason it's cheap. It's not fast or reliable.

I have cut the cord and really have no regrets, but how long do we expect it to take before our at home internet service providers put a data limit on us? Also at some point soon cox and att both will end our ability to log on to apps with only having internet provided and not tv. I'm sure there will be ways around it but it's gonna be a lot harder.

What speed internet is sufficient for cutting cable and streaming?

15 Mbps. I get that consistently with U-Verse, no dropouts and no speed degradation.

That close to Ascension parish, check Eatel also.

I have U-Verse and I'm lucky to maintain a max of 6Mbps on a good day.

Cox can get you anywhere from 5-100 Mbps

Maybe time to upgrade to the next tier or complain if you're not getting the speed you pay for.

Unless you are in Ascension, you wont get Eatel. I live about a mile from the parish line on Old Jefferson and can't get Eatel.

Thanks for the responses. I am also about a mile from ascension so eatel is a no go. What is the best way to test the speed coming into your home after you get it?

speedtest.net

But remember that if your computer connects via wi-fi you're limited by the wireless speed. It's more accurate to connect with an ethernet cable direct to the router to run a speed test.
