I've had a Iphone 4 for nearly 5 years(same phone), and I think it's time for an upgrade.

My main take is that I want an Android for the TV Sub apps (like watchESPN, watch HISTORY, etc) so I can mirror them to my Fire TV stick.

I'm not looking to spend over $100-$150 on a new phone, so it doesn't have to be the newest one, but I want it to work well enough. My battery on my phone completely blows, and the phone itself is pretty damn slow.

Anyone have suggestions?

Are you using an upgrade, or just buying?

I've had 2 Droid DNAs. They have been a decent phones. 5 inch screen, 1080 resolution, fast enough to get every job I need done. A refurbished one is only around $75-$125 on Amazon. Still getting Android updates too, or at least was not too long ago. Screen looks good, plenty of brightness, good color, and it will certainly do what you want it to.

Biggest downside, non upgrade-able 16GB hard drive that comes with several gigs of bloatware, so you only have around 11 gigs free. I haven't had a huge issue with it. But others might.

Not too sure, I'm due for an upgrade (was like 3 years ago ). Whichever seems fit.

I don't do music on my phone. I get on Tigerdroppings, 247Sports and check my Facebook group messages (Fantasy Football groups). I also text and call..which is obvious.

Aside from that, it'll be airplaying/mirroring to my Amazon Fire TV Stick

Why not just install those apps on the FireTV?

I'd imagine you will be able to get any of the top tier phones in that price range since you're extending contract, on black friday.

Will probably be able to get an Samsung S6 or LG G4 for like $50. I'd probably go G4.

My g4 was a pile of garbage compared to my note 5. It's not even comparable.

Not all are available (TBS, TNT, etc).

It'll make the cord cutting progress easier

It's $200 more expensive than a G4 and I would never recommend going that big + stylus when coming from an old iPhone of 3.5".

One users experience doesn't define a phone, the G4 is widely considered the best Android phone in it's price range alongside the Moto X Pure, and ahead of the S6, HTC One M/A 9.

I don't believe you can get the Moto X Pure on contract, just unlocked like the Nexus 5X and 6P. So that puts them over his budget and by quite a bit.

So that just really leaves him with the LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC One M or A 9.

He should pop into his local store and play around with each and pick the one he likes more. If going off reviews, G4 > S6 > One M9 > A9.

I dunno, the transition from iPhone 4S to Nexus 6 was pretty fantastic for me, but I guess I could've just as easily realized I hated phablets.

Yeah, I'd think you would fall into the minority big time with your transition, especially considering people thought the N6 was too big for them coming from 5-5.5" phones already.

+ 1

I originally went from an iphone 4 to a note 2 and quickly adjusted and decided the extra size was necessary (now with a nexus 6p from a note 4)

You might want to consider getting a Nexus 5. I think I saw them for about $180 not too long ago.

I'd recommend a Moto G. It's a little above your range, but not much. Pretty well regarded as a solid budget phone.

I have LG G3 and love it. My husband has a G4 and he likes it a lot also. Great cameras, the batteries can be replaced and you can add addition flash memory. Both have large 3000 mAh batteries with good battery life. Very few phones now have replaceable batteries and allow additional storage/flash memory.

I just recently got a Galaxy S6 and I love it. It's very similar to the Iphone, basic usage-wise.

Work phone took me from a flip phone (yeah, they still exist) to a Note 4 and now to a Note 5 and I've been very happy with both. I don't love the fact that the Note 5 battery can't be replaced easily, nor that i can't add an SD card, nor no IR, but other than that, it's fast and has been stable. Size didn't make any difference, can put any of them in my pockets and go.
