I currently have an Ipad 2 (3 years old), and old macbook (6ish years old), and my wife has a mac desktop (about 4 years old).

I need a tablet to have for day to day use. Primarily going to use it for reading my documents for training, share information via dropbox and google drive, etc.

I would like a USB port but since there are other ways to get the info other than USBs its not a deal breaker. It would be easier to get another ipad since I already have other apple products and will likely be getting an apple tv for christmas. Although I'm not opposed to getting apples rival instead of the apple tv.

I know this is a polarizing topic but just want a little input on the subject.

Thanks

ETA: The wife and I both have Iphones as well.

I just realized how much I sound like a hipster douche.

Sounds like an iPad would be best for you. I have the 2012 Nexus 7 and it is sluggish. I can't speak on the new iPads but when I had an iPad 2 that thing was fluid. My Nexus doesn't have lollipop yet to it either, that may make it better not sure. I haven't tried them yet but the Galaxy ones may be worth looking at. Always nice to have removeable storage.

No brainer to just get an iPad Air in your situation.

If all you want to do is pull up pdf's, then some cheapie Android tablet should work fine.

One of the best advantages of using Apple is how well its ecosystem all works together. Given how much Apple stuff you already have, I would suggest an iPad Air, which is a great tablet anyway and not a compromise.

Not at all. i wasn't knocking the Surface itself. It's pretty well respected. I 'm just saying how does he replace a desktop and two iPads with one single computer as was being implied?

Do you know you can fix that? You need to delete the cache partition. I did this to my wife's nexus and my mothers and it was a HUGE speed increase.

Under wipe your cache section.

I'm getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. Compared them to the iPad yesterday. Both performed great but the deciding factor was the ability to expand memory. I just got sick and tired of not being able to use my iPad mini for anything or even update easily because I only had 16GB. Spending 100 for an extra 16 is just ridiculous.

well only a desktop can replace a desktop if thats what they want.

but he wants a new tablet. The Pro 3 can easily replace an ipad and a macbook.

Yea to just do an update. 16Gb on my tablet are held up by movies for my 2 year old for travel and things somewhat educational for him while in the car. No wifi option. My tablet became useless because I could only use it to shuffle movies on and off the cloud.

Just got back from a vacation and due to my LG G3 having an SDCARD slot in it with an extra 32gb of data my Camcorder went 100% unused. 300 pics went onto my phone instead of other cameras. Made my life much easier with it all transferring to my amazon cloud when I got onto wifi too. The freedom of unlimited space is a tremendous advantage over locked in at 16/32/128 etc. Its the reason I didn't go with the Nexus 9 as well.
