My little girl turns 13 next weekend and we are going to break down and buy her an I phone. The mom insists that we put monitoring software on it. She will know that it's on there, so we do not need it to be hidden. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would suggest turning off all in-app purchases too. That is a great way to avoid an expensive bill from Apple.

If you turn on family sharing you can be notified of any purchase she tries to make and you can approve or deny it.

There's also a setting in the settings to restrict certain apps... like no Facebook, snapchat, browsers, etc. You can code lock them I believe. Don't remember exactly how to do it, but it's there for sure, google it.

I don't use monitoring software for my kids. We just have a standing policy that we can check the phone at any time and they have to keep us informed of their password. Turn on Family Sharing and their phone is part of the Find My Phone app so you can see their location at any time.

If you have a Mac computer, you can sign in to messaging with her user name/password and see all of the text messages she sends and receives. Could also do this on an iPad.

This does nothing for Snapchat, Facebook, etc.

Damn, I would have been in so much trouble if this was available when I was a kid.
