I hate my Galaxy S3, want an iPhone 6 or 6+. Contract is not up until January.

How much of a financial beating am I going to take if I just say screw it and trade now? Service provider is C-Spire, and I'm not interested in switching.

I'd prefer a dollar estimate, but if you want to get creative, I'll accept your answer as long as it's on a scale of 5th grader behind the bleachers to Ray Rice in an elevator.

legit carriers let you upgrade at ~18 months. Maybe your weird one will too. They don't want to waiting until the contract expires because then you can go anywhere.

Not sure where this falls in your spectrum, but since you already have one legit response...

Well I wasn't going to go with the sexual examples, but since you mentioned it, we'll set the standards at 16 year olds playing just the tip - Kobe Bryant in a hotel room with a white girl.

verizon wouldnt give me an early upgrade. All they'd offer me was the edge program.

Why not just call your provider and ask what the early termination fee would be to end your current contract and start fresh?

Going to do this tomorrow. Just wanted to get a feel about what to expect.

If your early termination fee is prorated then it might not be too bad. I know absolutely nothing about C-Spire though.

Is t-mobile the only carrier paying ETF's?

I believe it is. I found something from 2011 that showed their scale and it won't be too bad... But that was from 2011.

When I upgraded to the S3, I just went in and asked when my contract was up because I knew it was getting close. They said I had something like 10 days or so, and I think they only charged about $20 to upgrade, but I still have 4 months to go.

Just wondering if anybody here has happened to do this since the 6 came out.

Thanks for the responses so far.

No idea. I'm not changing carriers though. It's on a business account, and we're happy with their coverage.

The ETF should have been detailed in your contract, usually a lump sum reduced by a certain amount every month you keep service with them. Dunno how many people keep all those documents they sign.

CSpire's ETF fee used to be $15 per month left on your contract. Not sure if it still is though.

Sprint has been advertising that they will buy out contracts if that's something you want to try.
