Sitting on my computer earlier this morning, thinking: "Hey, Fonz. Let's see if we can get your cox bill cheaper." I've been with Cox for 5 years. My street in Southdowns, for whatever reason, will not let me get U-Verse. Just a black spot (believe me, I have called, e-mailed, gone in to the ATT Store, and even pulled a technician off the street one time during a run).

So I go online, and immediately I start a live chat. The live chat representive tells me he can offer me the Cox Best Bundle, for 163.62 total (after fees, surcharges, and tax) per month for 12 months. Not 24, 12. This includes contour, 100mpbs Cox Premier, Telephone Essential, AND HBO and Showtime. So I'm all in, and he walks me through the whole online order and complete it. I don't feel right about it, though.

I decide, about an hour later, to call Cox and make sure everything is still 163.82 and I will be good to go. Sure enough, this jackass did not complete the order, and forgot to tell me that it woul dbe an extra 45$ per month for Contour, Phone Fee, Sports Pak, and some other stuff bringing me up to 197.-- per month. The lady on the phone can do nothing but apologize and cancel the order. So I am stuck again with crappy cox internet and tv for 170/month.

TL;DR: Cox sucks. Lied to me to get me to buy new service claiming cheaper rates, and then added on an extra 45-50$ without notifying me.

Any suggestions of what I should do to cut the bill? I can't hop in a 2yr agreement right now, because I am moving in a year (and quite frankly I don't like 2 year agreements).

It depends on how set you are on getting traditional cable. Sling TV and Playstation Vue have some decent streaming tv packages, ranging from about $20-$45 a month. You'd still need Cox for internet though.

If you want to stay with Cox, ask to speak to their cancellation department. Unfortunately, that's what it takes to get their actual best offer.

call again and ask to speak to the customer loyalty center..

they don't help with lowering it then

then call again and speak to the retention center and threaten to leave and speak about what happened.

if still nothing.. then it's up to you on your action.

i don't have a problem with cox, they've been good to me.. even when i've had to call and get bill lowered after promotions.. they have also refunded/credited me back for whenever i wasn't getting a particular channel or my internet wasn't quite as fast as paid for.. that's all been fixed now though.

I pay 59.99 for 100 megs with Cox.

To the OP, if you have a fire TV box or a PS4 then take advantage of the 7 day free trial Vue is offering...if you like it then you have something to fall back on when you call Cox and threaten to leave. In other words, in order to get the absolute best deal, you have to be willing to follow through with your threats and vue offers a great fall back option

Yeah it sucks. For a while uverse wasnt offered at all. If you rent, some landlords wouldnt let you install a dish so you were stuck with cox. They had a monopoly. I would just cut the cable. If enough people start doing it they may actually be forced to start offering more a la carte or slash their prices.

Also I figure the more people jump on ps vue the more money they get and the better than can make their service, which pretty much blows everything out of the water imo.

I called them and said my $250/mo bill was too high and I wanted their help figuring out what I could get rid of.

I dropped Showtime and dropped my internet from 100mb to 50mb and they gave me a discount and dropped my bill to $180/mo for the next 12mos.

The whole call took about 10min.
