How often do you upgrade your tech?

I pondering today and realized all of my electronics are getting long in the tooth.
TV - panasonic plasma from 2010
Laptop - toshiba from 2010
tablet - fire HD (I only use it for controlling my plex server)
stereo - circa 2011
I also have ps3 but haven't turned it on in months
We should be building a house in about a year, so that'll be my opportunity to upgrade everything.

5 years or so depending on the generation.

Just bought then proceeded to go electronics crazy. Only thing missing is the computer, but I'll probably upgrade that in the spring.

When some "must have" feature gets released.
My 4 year old computer build still runs everything I throw at it.
My 7 year old tv still shows everything I want it to show.
I do have an iPhone 7 so there is that. Won't be getting the X when it comes out until the XI or Xs or whatever they call the next one comes out.

Just when stuff breaks, basically.. or if I get a bonus from work and want something. Or if there's a feature I really need or would like that would either complete a project or greatly enhance convenience.
The only thing I ever feel big impulses to upgrade unnecessarily is my phone; I always want the latest and greatest. However, even that is falling off. Tried out the Moto G5 and realized cheap phones are probably more than capable of doing what I want nowadays.

phone - about once every 2.5/3 years (Android) and always buy top of the line specs when I upgrade to future proof it a bit more (OnePlus 5 currently--love it)
TV - panasonic plasma from 2013
Laptop - work takes care of that, new ones issued about every 3 years
tablet - don't see a need for my personal lifestyle. phone and laptop knock out what i need
stereo - haven't had one since 2003
surround sound - Vizio from 2013 (i guess this takes care of the stereo via bluetooth)
game consoles - not much of a gamer. Xbox 360 is the newest console I own

I hold onto phones as long as possible factory resetting them once every 6 months or so to clean out the cobwebs.
Staying 2-3 generations back means I'm always getting a faster newer phone for $200.
My Nexus 6 handles everything beautifully so I'm honestly not sure what I'm missing out on. I'm going to skip the 5x/6p and go straight for a pixel when the new ones come out because gen 1 pixels will be in my price range

This is me. I don't play games or use most of what new phones offer. I just want a phone that has a long battery life and won't break if I drop it.

When it strikes my fancy.
Just bought a new gaming mouse for new reason other than I decided I wanted a new one for example.

Tablet: When it breaks, it's just a big screen internet browser for me
Phone: Yearly
Gaming Desktop: Upgrade parts as I want, seems like every few months something gets upgraded
TV: When it breaks
Laptop: No longer use these due to tablet for personal use, work one is updated by work every 4 years
Gaming systems: no longer buy them

Go ask the OT how often it changes golf clubs. Hilarity ensues. Some are like Apple fanboys. They'd change phones every six months if Apple would put out a new phone that often.

i find tablets start to get too slow and take forever to charge as the primary reason they go away.

When it breaks. My 55" Samsung LCD from 2009 is still working like a champ.

I'm not a gamer so a new battery and ssd will make my laptop last a decade unless the board goes out.

Money saved from laptop upgrades ends up here.

I don't keep my iPad updated to the newest OS. I have left it at a stable one. As long as Netflix/amazon prime/safari works, I won't bother updating. It's not slowed down and battery is still going strong and it's been a few years.
