it's an 8 month old Toshiba A7260 Windows 8.1 running as clean as a nun?
In that 8 months you haven't done a backup?

Yes I've tried the shift F8 option

Wondering if you are actually being quick enough with the shift/F8 combo, since Windows 8 starts loading boot files a lot more quickly than 7, after which Shift+F8 won't work. So, if you can confirm that you are holding down shift the entire time and hitting F8 rapidly the very millisecond you press the power button, and you're still just getting straight to BSOD (and you have attempted it multiple times), then that would be a sign of a totally corrupt system partition, which would mean you'll need to do what Hopeful Doc says (minus the locating the product key part. See below)

Also I've gone through every screen in the bios, but couldn't locate the product key.
Not that easy to access without software (which would require you to actually be in Windows on the machine) because it's encrypted. However, in theory, you should not even need the key when you reinstall or recover. Windows should detect it in the bios, as long as the disk you are using is an identical edition of Windows 8 (Regular Windows 8 x64 vs. Pro vs. Pro Enterprise vs. Pro with Media Center, and so on). It's hard-coded to that laptop's motherboard.

Actually it's only a little over 6 months, a no I did not create a back up disc, it's only been restarted about 6-8 times.
So I'm stuck like chuck cause I don't have the product key.

I'm holding the shift key and repeating hitting F8 key, when (even before) starting it up.
Still nothing
Still nothing

Try doing it with the f-11 key
Posted on 7/20/14 at 3:05 pm to heypaul
From what I've read, the window of time that Windows 8 looks for SHIFT+F8 combo is so small that it can be nearly impossible to execute sometimes. Time to just make your recovery disc.

Read the rest of my post above yours. You probably don't need the product key.

Hopeful do you remember the hp laptop that you helped me with a few months ago? If so you assisted me with starting it in recovery mode and I cant quite remember the process or was it a certain website you directed me to? I was up all night trying to start this one again. It has been working fine until my SO let the same little boy from down the street play with it again and he ruined it again.

Hold the shift key down and the f-11 button down you might get lucky and get it started in recovery mode.

I believe F11 is for an HP-specific recovery function. Bruce's copypasta from Google on the first page shows F12 as an option as well. Worth trying both... power laptop off completely. Press power button and immediately start spamming F12 rapidly.

This is correct, I have been desperately trying it with mine with no luck.

hitting F12 while booting up worked.
i select hdd recovery and it ask if i wish to continue, when i hit yes it acts like a normal reboot but then takes me right back to the blue error screen.

The downloads I can find need a key and I don't have one.

Not the correct screen we're looking for. Try Shift+F12

That's what I'm doing
Shift f12 at the same time as start up
Here's what I get
I have tried each of those, and all of them take me right back to the error screen

OK, well I have no idea why the advanced recovery screen isn't coming up with any of the combos, other than:
A) Windows starts loading the boot files before it can recognize the key combination fast enough.
B) Entire system partition is fricked, and/or possibly the hard drive
Either way, you're going to need the disk. And now that I've followed Hopeful Doc's link to that Win 8 download, I now understand why you can't make a disk from that. It immediately wants a product key, and only then will it actually download and give you the iso file you seek. Your product key is encrypted and embedded, and seemingly the only way to retrieve it is via software that has to actually run on the computer where the product key resides. You need a working installation of Windows 8 to recovery Windows 8. Good fricking job Microsoft.
I would say contact Toshiba and explain the situation, but I think the call-center idiot you get on the phone will just piss you off.
I bet you could torrent an ISO.

That was going to be my next option.
Do they still have key generators?
I remember bootlegging copies of windows 95 and up with key generators ....
