Is it finally happening?

quote:

If you’re a Google Wallet user (possible, if you’ve ever paid for something with Google Play), your app experience is about to get a little weirder. Google has released a second Google Wallet app to the Play Store. Though it probably won’t stay this way for long.

Google Wallet’s new app—which is distinguished by a slightly different icon and the word “New” in the title—will likely replace the old Google Wallet app eventually. Instead of handling mobile payments like the old Google Wallet app did (and still does), this new version will only handle things like your Google Wallet balance and transaction history.

As we learned in May, Google is going to release Android Pay soon. Android Pay will presumably be the new home for paying with your phone (if you’re into that sort of thing). It may replace the old Google Wallet app, or it may have a third Play Store listing that we haven’t seen yet.

per Lifehacker

The announcement that Android Pay was going to overtake Google Wallet for credit terminal payments happened a few months ago with the M announcements. I'm just glad I'll be able to finally connect my visa with phone now for in store payments. It works with all major credit card companies and is accepted at a ton of places and is expanding everyday.

Android Pay

Finally...

What's the difference in apple pay and android pay?

Sounds oddly similar to me.

Kind of surprised if they end up switching it to something actually called Android Pay. I would think "Google _______" would have a much broader and favorable public impression than "Android ______"

this was first iinitial reaction, but as long as I can pay at credit card terminals with my phone, I don't care what they call it. Hell, they may switch to Google Pay before all is said and done.

I was more curious about the whole concept. And more so, why are they changing the name to sound like Apple's product?

Perhaps the next nexus tablet will be named nexusPad, nPad for short.

I imagine the board meeting went something like this...

President of Product Development- "okay, what are we going to call the new payment system when we release M?"

Vice President of ProductDevelopment- "well, let's keep it simple because people are stupid and we don't want to confuse then"

PPD-" good idea... people are really dumb and the less confusion, the better"

VPPD-"how about Android Pay?"

PPD-"uhhhh... That sound's a whole lot like Apple Pay... right, Larry?"

VPPD-"exactly, Bob... again, let's keep it simple, let's don't overcomplicate this for people"

PPD-"what about all the people who say,'oh... Android ripped off Apple Play! Blah blah blah', what about those guys, Larry?"

VPPD-"those guy's are fgts, Bob , they are gonna be the same assholes who marvel at the amazing new Apple Pen and the keyboard attachment for the iPad, seriously... who gives a shite? let's just get it to market..."

PPD-" yeah...those guys are terrible... Okay, Android Pay it is!"

something like that

pretty much

I'll still have my Google debit card, so there's that. But yeah, pretty worthless if you already have a debit card.

For me, I like using my credit card. I don't think I have used my debit card since around '08/'09ish, and that was for cash at an ATM.

Eta- mainly use my Spark business card and Cabela's card

was it only with Visa credit cards? I have my Discover and Mastercard credit cards connected and never had issues accumulating miles/points

I only have my debit card connected because there's a minimum 15 debit transactions I have to do a month with my credit union to get ATM refunds, dividend, etc. Going to places I frequent that use NFC is an easy way of doing that.
