I have an ethernet outlet in the cabinet next to my tv where I have a cable going to my tv for streaming. I would also like to hook up the PS4 to the same outlet. Do I need a splitter or a switch?

Does splitting it affect the speed on each end?

get a switch. They aren't expensive.

The only reason to use a splitter is if you can't get electricity in the cabinet. If you have or can easily get power in there, get a switch.

Kind of. They work because 100mbit ethernet only uses 4 wires, so they use 4 wires for one connection and 4 for the other, both limited to 100mbit. Gigabit needs all 8 wires, so if you split gigabit they will be limited to 100mbit each.

I have an extra switch I'm not using. It's made by Netgear and works perfectly.

If you're interested, let me know. There is a small $15 delivery fee, in person. :-)

How much would you spend? I saw one at best buy for $35-$40 and I saw one for $10 on Amazon.
