I liked it for the most part, but the pop ups were all over the place, and eventually gave me a virus trying to search for an ad blocker. Is there an ad blocker for windows 10? I wouldn't mind going back to it, but want to get the pop ups down

Do you mean "Edge"? The re-branded IE browser? No ad-blocker I have found works with it.

Ad-blocking goes against the reasoning behind giving away the software for free in the first place. MS and others (*cough, Google, *coughcough) are taking us down the road towards customized ads all over our daily life just like the sci-fi movies depict. "Hey John, Have you seen..." coming at you from every flat piece of real estate, glass, kiosk, camera, microphone, etc., you come near.

I went Win10 and within a few hours made Firefox my default browser and have never touched IE or Edge again. Opera is my backup browser.

Yes, Edge.
I tried to use it along with "cortana". Seemed like everything I clicked on it would redirect me to a different ad. And then would have another movie ad pop up every 5 minutes it seemed like in its own window. Drove me nuts. I'm not very computer savvy, so I chose to go back to win7. Now I'm seeing pop ups with Firefox. Doing a virus scan, but nothing is showing so far

Win10 has IE11. Put a link on your taskbar.

Click on: Tools>Manage Add-ons>Tracking Protection
Then "Get a Tracking Protection List online".

These steps take you here:

Internet Explorer Gallery

Win10 sends all your personal stuff to MS. You may want to disable as much of that as you can.

MS claims they may allow adblocking for Edge later on.

Not using the default internet browser like my Grandmom and all her 80 year old friend would be a good start

Thanks! I used to know XP fairly well, but I never had the time to learn 7 and upwards.

I have several issues with 10 that I have never had with any other version of windows and two came after updates. First, 10 linked my computer to my microsoft account and my password became my outlook password. I didn't like it but I could live with it until I needed to change my password. I had to change it through outlook and since it was linked to my comp on an admin account, it made me wait 60 days for security purposes. I found the fix for this and it had to do wit hediting the registry and a few other things. Total pain in the arse to unlink these. The second major issue, I cam home last week to find I could only log into a temp account with no access to my files. The only fix I could find that would work was re-loading windows 7 from a disk. I'll stay with 7 as it's the best version of windows I have ever used next to XP.

7 is a breeze...a nice upgrade from xp, I'd say very user friendly

and xp was pretty decent too.

that linked article from SLATE shows exactly what a privacy nightmare 10 really is...it is a subtle big brother installed

I only have 1 installed and haven't used it in a cpl weeks or so....there is lots to turn off to regain some privacy, but the language they used to copy your info if we think we need to do so, is big brother

looks like I'll be using xp, 7 , and linux is on the horizon

screw 10 and the horse it rode in on....
