I have an old PC that was the wife's and we also have two older laptops, was going to throw them away or something before we move in the next couple of months but want to make sure that there isn't any data/etc on them....what is the best way to go about doing this before disposal?

Pull the hard drive and destroy it if you're really concerned about what's on it.

2 options. pull hard drive and physically destroy or if you are savvy enough to boot from a CD and click through a few menus you can wipe the drive with an application such as DBAN.
DBAN will give you several options on how to wipe it. A single pass of zeros is sufficient but 3 or 7 passes if you want to be extra thorough
