So I'm moving and have to get rid of this service. Are there any loopholes that will get me out of paying the cancellation fee? If not, will DTV allow me to pay that cancellation fee in payments or does it have to be all at once? Just trying to get some info before I wait on the phone with a machine for 30 minutes. Thank you

Any reason why you can't transfer your service with you, if they do try to nail you?

I think I've seen where they will waive the fee if you are moving somewhere where you cannot use the service. Say you are becoming a tenant and have no right to add satellite maybe?

This is how I would pitch it, but definitely say that it is landlord decision.

I thought you were let out of the contract when moving, no matter if your new place can accommodate or not?

They now offer relocation services for the dish and all that. They claim it doesn't cost anything, but in the fine print they charge you multiple fees

Before the AT&T deal, I ran into a situation where I was moving to an apartment where I couldn't have DirecTV. They were ready to charge me the cancellation fee, but I lucked out and was able to transfer the service to a family member. Hopefully they'll be more willing to work with you.

I just found the opposite. I just called to cancel my premiums and Sunday ticket because they gave me a discount last time I did that. They just called my bluff and took the packages off no problem.

Not too big of a deal because I didn't see the value in the channels at the price I was paying anyway.

I called to cancel and I have a little over a year left. Told them I was moving to a high rise apartment and couldn't have a satellite B/c there is no balcony. They said it was a $300 something dollar cancellation fee. I'll cancel and just not pay it. I could give two shits about it going on my credit.

I'd pay $100 maybe $150, but I'm not paying $300+.

I actually love DirecTv. It has to be damn near a tropical storm for the picture to go out and they have the best equipment and guide in the game. I have a real solid connection from Charter for internet and so the On-Demand is pretty instant as well.

The customer services was real good on my call today, apart from them not giving me heavily discounted channels haha. Guy actually looked up to see if AT&T was laying fiber in my neighborhood for gigabit.

Not to be that guy, but did you link a referral for the $100 credit? If not, I'll send you my info.

Thanks. I do not know the specifics yet, they went door to door, I wasnt home, but wife signed a contract. I was pissed at first, but have been having problems with Cox since they made us go to the mini boxes, so once it sunk in, and she told me how much we would save, I got over it. They are coming on Monday. I will let you know one way or the other
