My windows 7 64 computer did an auto update overnight and now all of a sudden my Outlook 2010 wants to crash every time it downloads an image in an email. I've seen a MS support article on this and followed all the suggestions, disabling add ins, reducing folder size, etc. but nothing helps. I'm thinking because it happened after an update that this is a new problem caused by the update. So is anyone else's Outlook choking on email images today?

Glad I'm not the only one!!!

I found this link and it seems to be what the issue is...but I have no idea what they're talking about doing to fix it.

I'd VERY VERY much appreciate someone here who does this to walk the rest of us dummies through uninstalling wtf this was or whatever it'll take to put shite back to normal.

I've spent the entire day messing with Outlook...almost uninstalled the whole damn thing trying to fix it. Turns out it was the stupid update...grrr

LINK

Seriously...help you be greatly appreciated!!

I'm like ATL...running a Windows 7 64bit with Outlook 2010. Any specifics you might need let me know...and potentially how to find them out, and I'll do it.

I'm not near that computer right now to confirm if the info from reddit works, but here's a guide on removing updates in windows. LINK Just follow the steps and remove the KB3097877 update.

Yeah...that's what I ended up doing. I wasn't sure if I needed to replace it with anything or whatever...

FWIW, it worked fine. Outlook 2010 is back up and running and no longer shuts down when an HTML heavy e-mail hits.

I'm thinking this must have effected a bunch of people. When my wife got home, she immediately started popping off about the trouble she had with e-mails and it turned out she was having the same problem and her IT department figured it out early but couldn't find the time to fix it.

MSO 2013 is fine this morning.

I'll test a 2010 session when I get out of this meeting.

My lead tech just told me there is an update to fix the problem. It is the same KB# but shows that it was published today. Supposedly installing that one on top the other one (no need to remove the bad one) fixes the issue. We shall see. Interested to see the spike in billable hours because of this.

My system did an auto update overnight so I hoped it was a fix, but it didn't fix it so I had to go with the update removal.
