I have a Dell Latitude D600. The sad story is it was operating fine-I fell asleep in my recliner with it in my lap- it fell on the floor. It no longer works. It has the little green light in the power supply when you plug it in(the power supply)-then plug power supply chord into laptop-little green light goes out. I figure something has shorted. I have stripped it to the motherboard being out on the bench. The little green light still goes out when you plug the laptop in. This,of course, won't let the laptop power up and work. Any ideas besides "a new one"?

Yeah, definitely a short. Normally, when a laptop takes a tumble like that, two things are at a high risk for breaking -- the hard drive and comically fragile power jack on the motherboard. So, take a close look at the power connection and make sure the prong is still secure, the housing around the prong isn't shattered, and all the solder joints are intact.
