I have just started looking at the usage tracker on my cox account. It shows that I have 2,000 gigs of data a month I can use. It also shows that yesterday I used 70 and the day before I used 60. A few months ago it showed almost 3500 for a month. Something is going on because I don't stream that much stuff and I do zero big movie downloads. Just usual internet surfing, youtubing, emailing type stuff. I don't see a tool on my luxul router to track it myself as a whole...I can for things that are connected via wifi on my unifi controller app but that's it. Is there some sort of program I can run on a device to try to figure out what is the culprit?

The only thing I can think of maybe is my security camera system? A lot of times I have the controller open on my work computer with the live camera feeds up and running. I'm guessing it's using data for me to remote view them? It's 6 2mp cameras....

What kind of security do you have on you wifi? If you go into your router settings you can see what devices are currently connected. Do you see any you don't recognize?

They are not on wifi just on the network. The NVR control box is plugged into my switch and the ip cameras go to the nvr. I am going to look again...I could account for all the devices when I first set this router up about a week ago. I wish this router also listed usage along with showing you everything connected to the network.

This is what is burning through your data. It is essentially 6 Netflix streams at the same time.

If you are concerned about it try dropping the frames per second down.

He was asking about security on your router...wanted to know if you have any leeches on your wifi.

I have an NVR setup with 6 cameras also and I still don't come close to touching my 1TB cap. I also don't have it up all day while away. My system uses a smaller resolution sub-stream for web viewing though.

Ahhh ok my bad...WPA-Personal security Key on the APs and the username PW on the router.

I never gave it thought that viewing the cameras from my office would burn through my data...oops. I usually pull them up in the morning and have it on all day and I flip to that screen and see whats going on. I also have a big koi pond on one of them so I like to detach from work and pretend im sitting next to it Heck sometimes I left it up over night...guess i'll alter how i use it. I am not concerned since it has such a high cap and they havent messed with me about the usage. I may stream more movies in the future and cut the cord so that my be a issue. Thats why im looking at all this stuff now to get my network in good shape.

I may look into this. Its a IC Realtime system...idk if it has that option I never looked.

For fun this is the last few months...burn baby burn

That's definitely what it is.

Solid guess.

Even at low quality and low FPS you're probably burning through about 5 gigs per HOUR that you're viewing your cams. Medium quality and medium FPS you can easily ring up 25 gigs per hour.

Are they wifi cameras? If so, I think I figured out why your wifi speed tests are so slow.

Apparently I used 250 on the 26th and I'm allowed 350 a month. Currently over by 463%.

IP cameras plugged into there own nvr then the nvr is attached to the switch. Its not slow anymore I been doing some fooling around and changing equipment. I am getting 125ish on the 5g network. I just need to move the APs around (and maybe get more) to get the coverage I need. It was just mainly a 2.4 network before with not a strong signal throughout. I am getting it all figured out now tho

I was shocked by the high cap. When the cox lady on the phone mentioned that I was like are you sure you don't mean 200g?

Ah ok, glad you're getting it all worked out.

And yeah, change your remote cam viewing habits, and/or lower the remote streaming settings to reduce data use. If you leave it streaming overnight, your speeds will be reduced when you're at home trying to use the internet.

Yes wifi has a password...and I can see all that are on the wifi network and there usage...its just anything connected directly I cant see usage.

I usually dont leave it up overnight but I do forget at time. I am going to not look at all today and see what the result is...killing me right now tho

it is a Duh moment. I guess I was thinking of it more like I was loging into the nvr not that it was sending info to me. Idk. At any rate I used 5 gigs yesterday without turning the cameras on at work.
