Cox Cable - New Modem

Just got a new modem and it wont connect to the internet. Is there something special I have to do w/ Cox to install a new modem? Are they not plug and play?

Years ago, you had to "register" the modem with Cox - you would call them and give them whatever info they needed about the modem. Don't know if that has changed as I haven't had Cox for over five years.
