Control4 Home Automation: Anyone familiar with this ?

An important person in our office has this system in his home, and is asking me how to use it. His main issues seems to be why he can't see his PC movies on his TV. Out of the box, all I can think of is that the PC is sleeping/off or firewall...He is using a 3rd party application that says it will integrate with the system and display his titles on the TV
Any insight would be appreciated..

ok that probably has nothing to do with control4.
without knowing what type of media server he's running this thread is useless.
windows media? XBMC? plex? windows home server?

Who programmed the Control4 system for him? Sounds like they didn't do their due diligence at the end of the install.

i'm sorry..but WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?
no offense to your boss, but its hard to take a piece of software with a name like that seriously.

I agree...He apparently is paying a few hundred bucks for it too..On top of the corporate grade Cisco managed switches they talked him into for his home ...

Control4 is a dealer only automation platform. Is his original dealer still in the picture? You won't be able to much troubleshooting if you aren't a dealer.
Is this a new install that never worked or did it justquit working?
Regarding the issue at hand, it isn't a straightforward process and there are a couple of different ways it could be configured. The general idea is that My Movies runs on a computer and handles the database management. The extra vegetables software is the go-between my movies and the Control4 GUI. There is also must be a hardware media player like a Dune or Popbox that is actually displaying the video via HDMI.

that sounds horrible.
look for this logo when you shop for a media server platform.

Yes, we know it's horrible and he could have done it for free with Google and be in NAS streaming bliss. But he didn't and you're not helping Gnotsi with the problem he came here with.

Well apparently drsung is the only person who knows anything about Control4 and Extra Vegetables, and it sounds like the guy needs to go back to whoever got paid to set it up for him in the first place. Not much more to say about that other than "expensive lesson learned" and Extra Vegetables is a funny name. But then again, all of the iterations of Android have stupid names, too.

No doubt about that...He is just another user that has an unlimited budget and knows just enough to order what he thinks sounds good...He seriously has switches that small companies would like to own.

Yes, going back to the original dealer is the best course of action.
If the original dealer is no longer helpful or responsive I can get you to a dealer who will be.
With that being said, the EV driver/Dune is not my favorite way of doing the C4 movie integration. However, it is the only way of getting the coverart/metadata into the C4 interface. Using the C4 interface is not required and a box running XBMC and a C4 IP driver is a much cleaner solution IMHO. The only downside is that you use the XBMC gui for selection instead of the C4 Movie Interface.
This is a completely off the cuff guess, but do you know what version of My Movies he is running? They recently released a version 5 and if he upgraded and the dealer is not a "my movies integrator" that could have caused the integration to stop working.
