The thing is a dream when it's working properly, but seems like it always drops after a fair amount of continuous use and is a long time before it comes back up...anyone else?

I realized last night that it doesn't work/loses connection when the microwave is running...

The WiFi hardware in the Chromecast is shite. We put a wireless access point right next to it to help. Ultimately we decided to go with hardwired nexus players instead of the WiFi only Chromecast.

If anyone is interested it requires a micro usb to standard USB adapter, and then an Ethernet to USB adapter

So just to be clear, the internet connects via hardwire to the player, but your phone/tablet can still cast wirelessly to it? Is that via bluetooth?

Can you plug it into a receiver instead of the TV (like you can with Chromecast)?

Right. Technically it's doing all the heavy lifting itself (same with basic Chromecast) your phone/tablet is just getting it started.

On the nexus player there isn't technically a Ethernet slot, but android has drivers to support USB Ethernet. So you take a cat5 cable and plug it into LINK and then plug that USB into LINK. Then you plug into the player.

It sounds convoluted, but it's really not. I'll post a pic tomorrow if you want, I'm already in bed.

Edited for pic

Microwave signals are on the 2.4ghz band, and it's a strong signal. The microwaves you can buy today are pretty well shielded, but distance and placement play a role too, and the age/shittiness of the microwave. It's definitely not implausible. Aside from neighboring wifi signals, microwaves, cordless phones, and baby monitors are among the top culprits for home wifi interference.

Thanks! I might give it a try. It sucks that chromecast is so spotty, since it truly is easy and great when it's on.
