Chromebook won't update.

Gmail keeps giving me the error, telling me to update. I click on the link and it says Linux blah blah can't update.
I try to do a speedtest through comcast, can't do it because chrome is out of date.
Google results say it's all automatic, but apparently that's not true.
Google manual update says to click on things that aren't displayed, therefore I can't click on them.
I've already made a stink with the google people on their stupid forum.
I've only had this chromebook a couple months. I never had a single issue with me previous chromebook.
Both acers.
Any advice?

Run Chrome update utility and install a fresh version from a USB drive. Should do the trick

browse to chrome://chrome and see if there are updates available. If that doesn't work you can try to use the recovery utility as other have said
