Is it possible for a new Soundbar/wireless subwoofer to replaces a Sony home receiver with 5.1 sound? Room demensions 18x16 with hardwood floors. I know the Cinematic will more than likely be equal or better. What about music?

What say you?

You can't accurately reproduce 5.1 with only a front. The speakers may sound better than what you have but it won't be the same.

Music will be better if you have better speakers because those only really need 2.1

Soundbars are always a compromise.

What I'm saying is if you already have towers or legit bookshelf speakers, it most likely will be a downgrade. If you are coming from an all in one box solution, you might have an upgrade depending on the soundbar.

Is there a carpet on the floor? Harsh surfaces equals harsh sound.

Soundbars are fine for most people and likely good enough for you.

I'm not being a smart arse here but If you were really into "audiophile" quality to the point that a sound bar wouldn't be good enough for you, you wouldn't be asking this question.
