CAD / McTiger / Anyone?: Wink Hub, IFTTT, and Schlage Touchscreen Lock Codes
Posted on 12/16/15 at 1:21 pm
Posted on 12/16/15 at 1:21 pm
Some background... My parents and I own a vacation home in which we installed 2 Schlage Locks connected to our Wink Hub to remotely change the entry codes for various guests. I know I am able to change the entry codes manually through the Wink app, but I was looking for a way to automate this. I have downloaded the IFTTT app, but there isn't a shortcut to access the Schlage lock codes. Is there a way to reference a spreadsheet (ideally), calendar, etc. in order to automate this process? I'm trying to avoid using my calendar reminders to manually update check-in and check-out codes.
TIA
TIA

I haven't tried but I know the api on those locks are very "locked down" for security reasons so it's not too easy to automate the codes (from what I hear). CAD or mctiger may have had luck with this. I'm sure they'll chime in as well.

Thanks, MrSmith. It's the only painful thing I've run into, so I'm hoping there's a solution.

Sorry, I've been having the lock, but just finally got a hub to connect to so I haven't messed with it too much. Seeing as how you have to input your wink password when changing codes, i don't see that being a possibility.

Thanks for the input. Maybe it'll be the old fashioned way after all.

I love wink and all but I would not trust it to handle remote security of a house.
But it's great that it can generate the historical activity of everyone coming and going.
Analytics/dashboards would have been the next logical step. I sure hope someone continues development because this product still has huge potential.

We would do the work ourselves, but I don't want to travel 2.5 hours both ways on sometimes a daily basis to change a code for a home. It was the best option at the time. We have some back up options if it falls through, like the good ole' lock and key.

sometimes wink fails to tell me a light is on when it IS or off when it is NOT.
i will say i haven't had too much trouble with the schlage lock, but wink only knows to LOCK or UNLOCK it and a renter could simply leave the door ajar and the schlage would not know it fired the deadbolt into the air instead of the doorjam.
thats all i'm saying.
you could pair it with a tripper if you have one and also check to see that the tripper is closed when the door is locked and alert you if it isnt.
wink is definitely great from the standpoint that you can remotely administer codes (just not automated input) and delete them without having to drive 2.5 hours. i would just also have some other type of failsafe (a neighbor in the area perhaps?) who wouldn't mind periodically checking to ensure everything looks good.
you shoudl definitely invest in a tripper (they're only $10) and use that sensor in conjunction with the schlage lock to ensure everything seems kosher.

Just ran across this for SmartThings:
Smartthings Lock App
that may provide what you are looking for. Not sure if it works with Schlage, but it might be worth looking into further.

pretty sure wink does all of that with the schlage lock now.
i think he was looking for a 'mass import' so he could manage the people, codes, schedules, etc in a spreadsheet or XML that the schlage would pull from.

I only see the option to add and manually delete on mine...?
That sounds like he could put a bunch of codes in and set schedules

Yes.. You can do that. Look close at the schlage.. You can set up tons of codes.
Depending on what code is entered you can get notified or trigger other actions like lights or turning the ac down or
Eta
Eta2 I stand corrected as I don't see the TTL feature (time to live) but I'm almost positive the lock supports temporary codes.

Yes, i can add all the codes, but i dont see a place to say the code will only work between 1 and 5 pm on December 25th.

see my edit. You are correct. That doesn't seem to be there.

Thanks for the input. I'll look into a tripper. We are close with the neighbors and they live in the house year round, so they will be of use when the lock doesn't look extended. We also have cleaners coming regularly after trips, so it'll be a second check of people leaving and closing the doors behind them. I wish wink / schlage would allow for some more customization, but it'll have to do for now.

well hold the phone, it looks like some scheduling of the lock codes is avaialable after all in wink
maybe not 100% what you need but you can limit codes to certain times of days

Sweet. That's definitely a step closer.

Sorry for the huge pics. I need to adjust the imgur size settings before I link them.
