Original iPad finally bit the dust and I'm now looking to upgrade. I like the iPad but right now the Nexus 7 is looking like the one I want to get (mostly because of the price but specs seem excellent). Am I making a good choice or are there better options out there? Looking to spend under $400 but if it's in the Nexus range all the better.

Also I have an Android phone if that means anything.

I'm going to piggyback onto this thread. I need a new tablet, too.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Do you want to sure the internet and play apps or do you want to do more work and word processing?

Surfing and apps mostly, that's what I used the original iPad for. Word processing would be nice but I have a good laptop if need be. Also if it could connect to my TV/gaming systems that would be a plus as well.

Is that the Samsung tablet? The guy at AT&T told me that Samsung is coming out with a new tablet shortly and to wait and get that one. Personally, I'm strongly considering moving to Apple for phones/tablets/computers. I've never owned an Apple product before, though. The thought of change makes me nervous.

Is their a $400 version of the air? I thought it started at $499.

$499 is base for air

The iPad air is the best by far on the market. Can't beat the quality although iPad air 2 is coming out September 25th

It's $500 though, really not trying to spend that much. Especially when I'm primarily using it for surfing and apps. Is the 4th generation good or is the Galaxy a lot better. Also not opposed to the 7/8in tablets.

if you are just surfing and apps I don't see why you just don't get the Kindle FIre HD

A lot cheaper

I would go nexus 7 or 10. The operating system will always be the latest. If you buy a Samsung it will take a while for the L release of android to make it to your machine if it does at all.

Ipads are great and hold their value incredibly making resale/upgrading relatively easy on the pocket book. That being said, if you aren't dug into the apple ecosystem and plan on keeping the device for a while a nexus will sufice.

Because I hear the Fire isn't that good, I'll play the occasional game or two and I'll be bringing it with me a lot. Want it to be nice just not break the bank.

Also use Netflix often so I would like the display to be nice.

fire hdx has a great screen. I just bought a new fire for my kids. Best thing for kids IMO as you are able to control their content.
