I have 8 sets of double lights on the corners of my house controlled by 3 random light switches scattered around the house.

It's a pain if I want all on at once because I have to go find each switch and I have a lot of ground to cover (subtle brag).

I'm looking for a way to control all three switches at once and as a bonus maybe be able to dim them as well.

Finally I want it to work with wink or a good native app if not so I can crank the lights up from the pool if I need. I guess it would also be nice to only turn on certain lights too.

So this is part technology question and part looking for the most elegant way to manage multiple switches.

i'm a little leery (ok alot) of wink-branded stuff over say lutron or other more established smart switches that work with wink.

i dont care about 'smart bulbs' because i'm not paying a premium for those..i want to replace with dimmable LEDs for sure..but i would only want dimming built into the switch, not the bulbs themselves.

Sounds like you know what you want. Why are you asking us?

to get suggestions. i dont know if this is as simple as buying 3 $60 smart switches or if there's a much better way to do it that my wink-glasses don't allow me to see.

before i spend the money & time to install the switches; is there a much better product or way to approach this i'm not thinking about?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm with you on the smart bulbs thing... it doesn't make any sense to me to use smart bulbs. Cheaper to do it at the switch in most cases involving multiple bulbs.

I don't have any real suggestions for you, I guess. The IoT world is so young and in so much flux right now that I don't know which way I want to go myself. Personally, I generally lean toward open tech, so I would look into building stuff myself. Arduino + relay + wifi/zwave/zigbee/whatever, and I think it would be fun to build a smart switch myself. Could probably swap the relay for a dimmer circuit too.

I was looking at the Wemo wall switches but not sure they will sync up. Maybe through Iftt?

Not sure.. Be careful if you are looking for dimming. I think that wemo best seller at amazon doesn't have that.

Eta also ifttt support on wink is still lackluster at best if you're looking to use wink hub.

I came across these yesterday while researching outdoor LED lights. Not sure that I'm ready to shell out that much.

ive gone back & forth on the motion activated upgrades and decided i'm just going to go with the $2 metal bases already on the corners of my house & put some nice LED bulbs in those..then use my wink or a zwave remote to control them.

too many critters in the woods behind our house..those things would go off all hours of the night.

I'd prefer non-motion sensor lights, and just use a switch, but having trouble finding good outside LEDs. I currently have halogens that put off about 2,800 lumens.

i just have those round spotlight-ish bulbs now..they've probably been on the house 20 years

i'm painting the exterior so its a good time to swap with LEDs.

maybe they're 65w? Not sure but I want POWERFUL screw-in LEDs that i can also dim.

Let me know when you find some. I don't care about the dimming part. I think I'm going to give this one a try this weekend. $60 isn't too bad of a gamble.

This is easily done with Insteon and you could make one switch operate the others and have a keypad without needing a hub...if you want to use your phone you need the hub. I have a keypad(rechargeable/portable) that I was able to mount next to an existing switch in a standard decora plate that can toggle/dim individual lights or toggle all. May not be what you would want to do, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Switch

Keypad

Bracket that just screws to the wall plate, not the wall.

CAD bought a house like a year ago and still likes to find any reason he can to remind TD that he bought a house.
