Bought The Nighthawk X6 From Costco (Need Help With Problem)

I'm excited to hook it up and when I do, it's not reading that the Ethernet (yellow) cable is hooked up to it from the modem (like it shows in the instructions.) I'm not sure how to fix this. Heard something about a software update?

Did you let your modem power on and cycle through before turning on your router?

The only light lit up his the power light (it's clear).

I plug in my cheap $30 Belkin Router and it works fine. The Netgear router though none of the lights are lit except the power light even though everything is hooked up correctly.

Call your provider and give them the router info. They have to give it access to the network.

Depends on which ISP he has.
