Best style headphones? UPDATE in OP

I currently use a pair of meelectronics pro ear buds. I really liked them for the first year of so, and now they just aren't doing it for me anymore.
I want the best sound quality I can find for < $100. What style is best for sound? Over the ear seems to make the most sense in that regard.
Anyone have any recs for that price? Was thinking of maybe getting the Marshall major 2? I like balance, so no beats.
But I'm completely opens to whatever.
UPDATE - ended up buying the Audio Technica ATHm40x. They freaking suck I guess they sounded pretty good, but the output volume was ridiculously lower than my MEE earbuds, which surprised me. I guess my phone doesnt have enough power to push them, and i'm not carrying around an amp while i mow the damn grass, like the Guitar Center guy tried to talk me into.
I took them back. Guess OverEar headphones aren't my thing.

No way you'll find better performing headphones for the price than the Sony MDR-7506 Professional

Mpow Cheetahs. They cost me 25+ bucks and they have been great. I got the suggestion from this board btw.

I heard the Shure se215 is good. Also the Sennheiser momentum.
Do you have a rooted phone? If so, get viper4android and it will sound much better.

Not rooted, but my v10 has dac and the music player has a great EQ.
What does viper do?

Second on the Sony...they are hard to beat for the price.

do the sony's have a balanced sound? i assume they would since they are for studio work.

Balanced sound is their forte. They are not overly bass heavy. They provide accurate bass, mid and treble reproduction. Lets you hear the dynamic ranges in the music as the musician intended.

Seems like these and the sonys are at the top of everyone's list for under 100. Both have excellent reviews everywhere I look.
Decisions.

Yes, Sennheiser is one of the best for me!

Audio Technica > Sony.
Also, there are different kinds of over ear headphones. There are closed headphones and open headphones.
Closed headphones have a "closed" back meaning you keep noise out and keep noise in, and they are generally more bassy.
Open headphones let sound in and sound escapes so they aren't quiet if there are people around you. But the benefit is that many people think it sounds better. Crystal clear and not big boomy bass. But you would only want to use these for listening in a quiet room.
Both the Sony's and Audio Technica's are closed headphones.
If you want to try an open over ear headphone for $100, look at the Sennheiser HD 558.

They are above your price range, but i have the AT m50x and love them. My friends study with their m40's and love them also. You cant go wrong with AT or Sennheiser imo

So one of my main uses is listening while mowing the grass. I know an open back will let sound out, but will it let sound in as well? I was thinking closed back would be the way to go.

Yes they let sound in as well. They're only good if you're listening in relative quiet.
You need a closed back headphone for sure if you're going to be using them while mowing grass.

AKG and Beyerdynamic are also good brands that are used by professionals. May want to research those brands as well.
And if you can, go test them out because there are many headphones that are high quality headphones that sound good, but they all sound different. You gotta listen to them to figure out what style of sound you like. Some have more bass, some more treble, some sound like the music is right in your face, some sound like the music is away from you a little bit, etc. You just gotta find your preference.
