Looking for a basic laptop for work. Really just need it for web browsing and doc creation through Microsoft word, pp, excel, etc.

Sort of what I figured. Care to recommend any particular one?

Personally I don't think it's worth it to but a laptop that cheap. I have before and it was a complete piece of crap. Is it a matter of not having the budget right now? In my opinion if thats the case I would say to wait a little bit and save up some more $ and buy a laptop that can last 3-5 years.

Unless you need a laptop right now in which case go for it.

What if he's still just browsing the web and making word documents 3-5 years from now?

That's pretty much all I do along with doing homework on my laptop. Still broke on me...Just speaking from personal Experience. It was a really cheap computer with cheap parts. Hence the price point. Hey if you can buy a $300 laptop and have it work for a few years go for it. Just speaking my opinion. It didn't work out for me so now I don't buy cheaper laptops anymore.

lol just because I am recommending not to buy a <$400 laptop does not mean I am saying go out and spend over $1000.

I would say a Macbook wouldn't be a bad choice...But I defininitely wasn't going to recommend it. I was going to say something along the lines of a thinkpad or chromebook or something.

it was more of a joke and a jab at apple people, but a chromebook? Im not too high on those. they are underpowered for heavy web browsing.

You can get quite a bit for $400 these days, but you have to make sure you get the right laptop. Some of them are focused on size and portability or being 2 in 1s, and those will have weaker specs than one that's more of a basic workstation.

Toshiba's are surprisingly good at that level. Mine is 3 years old as well and runs fantastic still. In some ways better than my $1500 ASUS.

wtf is with all the arguing? I linked you about a $1400 laptop refurbed for $420. Just fricking buy it. I'm posting from nearly the same model, from the same place, also refurbed, all I did was replace the HDD with an SSD and this thing is a beast for what I use it for. Super fast.

HP Stream 13 on Amazon for $215 as another option. If you're only using it as a web browser + light office work.

You can find a dual core with 4 GB Memory and Windows 7 for $200 bucks. That's good enough for browsing the web and making some documents. It should last you 2 or 3 years with a lot of wear on them.

That's normally what I pay and use them for.
