You can do this with Onedrive as well for Office apps (Excel, Word, etc.) even if you don't have Office.

I use one drive just because I get 50 gigs for free.

Yes but I forget how I got it. I don't think everyone gets 50gigs free, but all the cloud companies are always giving away free space for life if you keep an eye out.

until dec 31 2014, if you bought a chromebook you got ONE TB FREE gdrive from google

why didnt i just go ahead & buy one?

i can upload a video to dropbox and my phone wont play it. a video that i recorded with the very same phone.

that's dumb. it plays just fine in google drive.

I like Google Drive. The only rub I have is that if you send a sharing link with proper permissions to a client so they can upload a file, they are required to have a Google account. I don't think Dropbox requires that. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Google Drive for me, although I do use dropbox when I transferred old pics from my old phone
