I went to Sams and got a Lg LED smart tv for around $550 taxes included. 1080p and 120hz. I believe it was like 48" or 49" though.I actually didn't even want a smart tv but I didn't really like the other options so I basically just keep it offline.

If you can't go to Sams or Costco or something Amazon always has good prices on stuff. I would check some tv's out there.

Very true, but the TV's with the best picture also happen to be Smart TVs. Not because they are smart TV's obviously.

Costco has a 60" Samsung plasma dumb TV (pn60f5350), same as pn60f5300 models sold elsewhere, for $699. plasma generally has your best picture if you can control the light around it, assuming you don't want to pay for oled. Add your preference of Fire TV, Apple TV, roku, etc. for much more functionality than a smart tv.

More or less the same TV without the 3D functionality. I got it when it was closer to 1,000.

The 800B was rated as one of the best LED TVs for 2014, and coming form a 720p plasma, I thought the picture quality was complete shite. I will be upgrading to OLED ASAP.

I've had a smart 3D tv since January 2011 and would recommend getting a regular one and a streaming device. But as someone else said, they usually give better deals and pictures on the smart tvs. The worst part is they don't update the apps and this is a Samsung tv, you would think the support would be better. I'm going to try to make it last at least 4 more years and see what is out by then. I want to move from my 55" to at least 80".

IMO TV's should cost for their picture quality, brightness, etc. The "smart" components will never match the standalone boxes that run XBMC and similar devices...Amazon FireTV, Roku, Ouya, and many more.

All-in-One systems are for idiots.

55" 4K for $900

You have to do store pickup though, and I don't know how close you are to a MicroCenter.

Refurb 4K for <$1K

If you are good with refurb, the above isn't a bad option.
