Just switch to the unlimited plan they have now. Saved me a bunch of money.

Got the email last night. This is the 2nd or 3rd time they've done this. My monthly bill is currently around $175/mo for 2 lines which includes a 10% discount through my employer.

So what is the downside to switching to the new unlimited plans?

I believe the downside is that the old unlimited plans would not throttle your data once you hit a certain limit, where the new plans do. I could be completely off though.

I'm on the top unlimited (not grandfathered plan) and have never noticed throttling.

Not sure what the benefit really is in keeping the old plans.

Looks like, according to AT&T's own website, I could save roughly $30/month going to their AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced plan.

ETA: What I can't figure out, is why that plan is $10/month cheaper than the 20GB plan.

It has to do with mobile hotspot usage. The 20gb plan lets you use mobile hotspot as much as you like. Unlimited choice does not allow any mobile hotspot usage.

Yeah. I just saw that. Not only that, but it looks like the Choice Enhanced plan can throttle your speeds at any point in time with the Plus Enhanced plan states they can do it after you've exceeded 22GB. Not only that, streaming on your device is also limited to 480p with the cheaper plan.

AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced ($170/month)
quote:

Plan includes unlimited high-speed data (after 22GB per device per month, we may temporarily slow data speeds when the network is busy) After 15GB, mobile hotspot speed slows to a max of 128Kbps. HD video streaming (as available, up to 1080p) with Stream Saver turned off. You must keep AutoPay and paperless billing to keep monthly discount. Discount starts within 2 bill periods.

AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced ($140/month)
quote:

Plan includes unlimited high-speed data (we may temporarily slow data speeds when the network is busy). Video streaming is limited to a max of 1.5Mbps (standard-definition quality, about 480p). Mobile hotspot use isn't available with this plan. You must keep AutoPay and paperless billing to keep monthly discount. Discount starts within 2 bill periods.
Use plan talk, text & data in Mexico and Canada. Fees, charges, additional usage and other restrictions apply.

New plans are a good deal. The unlimited plus gets you $15 off your Directv bill and free HBO for life.

The streaming is 1080

We had ATT for about 14 years and the bill kept going up and generally giving crappy customer service. Switched to Cricket and they are fantastic. Our bill went from $240 to $130 for 5 lines. Cricket uses ATT towers so it's the same coverage. Plus, if one person is about to go over on data, you can switch their plan to up their data limit so you don't get jacked on the overage fee. They let you do that once per month for each line.

Anyone else's att service just gone to crap lately? I no longer have service at my house. And areas that I used to have perfect lte I'm just getting h service. Not sure if they have changed something or if a whole tower is down. And for some reason the humidity aftectsthe serive too. No lie, if it's raining, no service.
