I went to turn it on tonight to watch the game and it is saying it needs to be restored. It has been working flawlessly for years.I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in and it is still saying the same thing. I tried following the instructions to use a micro usb and plug it into the computer but itunes is not recognizing the device. I have had the AppleTV for about three years now and no applecare. Anybody now how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Throw it away and get an Amazon Fire TV. I've had an Apple TV Gen 2 for years. I have Apple phone and Mac PC. Never use the Apple TV. You won't miss it

Get Plex server on the same machine that has your iTunes library and load your library in it.

Then get FireTV with the Plex app

So no one has any idea how to fix this? I haven't had any issues with it until today for three years. Not looking to find an alternative and completely happy with it when it is working. Thanks anyway for trying but really I'm just trying to fix it and not have to buy a new one.

Did you leave the AppleTV's ac adapter plugged in while you did this?

No I didn't! Maybe that's why? I feel like a big dummy now lol. I just assumed it was like an iPhone and it didn't need the ac adapter to update. I'm headed out the door soon for work but I will update this when I get home this evening. If this works

Options
1.
Call apple, wait forever for Customer Service, ship unit back to Apple, wait forever, ( this will give you lots of time to ask yourself why you bought Apple)

2. Buy new Apple unit

3. Buy a Roku or Amazon Fire

Not a problem. Glad it's working again. Here's to hoping you get 3 more years out of it before more than your YouTube channel is unsupported.
