For anyone who has it give me the low down on it? I was intending to buy the google chromecast to watch LSU baseball. I have been plugging my laptop into my tv with a VGA and sound cord. Saw the thread yesterday about the chromecast and figured this would make things simpler. I was advised by someone to go with Apple TV for compatibility reasons since I am using a IPhone. I don't know jack about Apple tv or any of these other online tv services. So what can I do with Apple TV, is their anything else I will need? Is this monthly subscription service or a one time deal?
Point me in the right direction.

apple tv itself has no monthly subscriptions. but you can access apps that do like netflix, hulu, amazon, hbogo, etc.
then there are some channel apps that if you have cox, directv, etc. you can access like history channel, a&e, etc.
they are correct if you have an iphone go with apple tv only so your music and other media can be shared.
if you don't care about that and want to save on price then go with chromcast.
i have a roku which is basically the same thing. i don't have an iphone though.

I have a Apple TV and amazon fire tv for the kids. Both are great. Apple TV works great for watching games on Espn app.
You should put this on tech board. Good advice over there.

i think the biggest advantage for you would be mirroring your iPhone to your tv using apple tv. i've got apple tv only for lsu baseball and it works great. i think there may be more aps/channels with roku etc if you don't care about mirroring your iPhone
