Yesterday I tried to plug in my Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) running macOS Sierra Version 10.12.5 into a HDTV via HDMI cable, but it never worked. Anyone else having this issue or could offer some help. I've tried different TVs, different cables, I've reset the SMC and NVRAM on the computer. Booted in SafeMode. Did the user test. Nothing worked.

With the computer connected to the TV, did you go to Settings>Displays? Was there a Gather Windows button in the bottom right hand corner?

No "Gather Windows" button. I even tried holding down the "option" button and clicking on the "detect displays" options that would pop up

Are you sure the HDMI port on your MacBook works? Are you sure the HDMI cable works?

Let me ask the dummy question...

Did you change the input on your tv once you were all hooked up?

i remember i tried doing this with my buddies macbook once and we couldnt get it to work until you switch the output settings on the macbook. i think there is a display button on the upper right side of the toolbar, which will take you into the display settings.

IIRC, you have to play with the output format
