Amazon is working on its first wearable device: a pair of “smart glasses” that would allow its virtual assistant Alexa to be summoned any time, anywhere, according to people familiar with its plans.

The device, which would tether wirelessly to a smartphone, is designed to look like a regular pair of spectacles so that it could be worn comfortably and unobtrusively, the people said. A bone-conduction audio system would allow the wearer to hear Alexa without having to insert headphones into their ears.

...The Seattle-based group is also said to be expanding its “smart home” hardware line-up with a new home security camera system.

I'm trying to figure out the use case for the Alexa glasses. It requires you having a phone on you. "Alexa what's the time/temperature/etc." seems excessively lazy if your phone is near you. I can see the benefit of the silent reply IF you didn't have to speak outloud to ask your question. Can you whisper "Alexa what's the score of the game?" when you're in church on Sunday? Maybe that's the use case right there, hidden headphones to listen to the game in church and people can't tell that you're doing something else?

Are they going off the Google Glass concept where Alexa can "see" what you are looking at? While camping you can ask "Alexa, is this berry/snake poisonous?"

This sounds much more simplified audio only solution which I think is a good direction to take wearables for now. Again, I'm having problems seeing much of a use case for "Alexa Glasses" but "Secret Headphone Glasses" with Siri or Google telling me directions while I walk through an unfamiliar city with my phone in my pocket and my ears unobstructed seems like it could be pretty useful.
