I wish the echo were wireless. This just doesn't look good to me.

Damn, Amazon is going all out on Alexa. I WANT to want it but I just can't seem to justify it. Would it be cool to say "Alexa, turn off all the lights.". Sure, but I can do the same with my phone with my wink hub.

I dunno. If I want a wireless speaker, I'll just stick to Sonos.
ETA: How does the Amazon Echo sound compared to a Sonos Play:1?

Don't have a sonos to compare it to, but I'd say if you already have one, don't rush out to replace it. Echo is cool if you have a need for it, but I would go buy one to replace a working speaker.

I dont see it as a speaker, but as a tool for home automation. It makes Wink that much better.

This has me intrigued as most/damn near all my lights are connected to my Wink hub. However, I don't have a Nest or Ecobee smart thermostat yet though. Trying to prioritize.

Should I get with an Amazon Echo prior to a smart thermostat? Wondering if I wouldn't harness the true capabilities of the Amazon Echo until I get more "smart items" other than just lights.
Whatcha think?

If that's the case, then the Dot should be a perfect fit. The Verge had a quick video which mentions that the Dot has all the Alexa features, but is very underwhelming being used as a speaker itself. They say it's really intended to be paired to another speaker either by bluetooth or the audio out.

I wish my honeywell smart thermostat would hurry up and sync with my home automation hub.

I would go for thermostats first if you have just lights.

For Alexa, i have thermostats, lights, locks, garage door, home entertainment. I can tell Alexa to run a goodnight routine that makes sure everythimg is in its proper state. Sure, i could do that from my phone, but i rather not have to use a phone for home automation

Yea, for as much stuff as you have, I agree. I think if I got a smart thermostat then maybe Alexa would help me more but it seems like taking a sledgehammer to kill an ant when I only have smart lights.

That need to get Google play on this. And my echo is pretty terrible as a Bluetooth speaker, skips a lot.

yeah guess not. They have some, just not my model.

I know some developers made it to where's it's feasible with their own coding but i'm not smart enough to implement all that.
