The more conspiratorial among us have often wondered when Amazon would reveal it's true intentions.

How and why does a company not even try to make a profit while continuing to grow and grow, offering new and better service seemingly every day, creating innovative products, and basically redefining shopping forever?

Well, so they can come into your home with AI and take over, of course.

This doesn't seem much different than what most smart phones can already do. I guess being always on and shared by a household makes it different. They should have integrated Fire TV with it.

Will it use what it hears to then suggest purchases on Amazon?

I can't imagine they would have it speak at all when not specifically asked to.

Well, not until "it's time", at least.

Obviously OP was in jest, but this kind of stuff does raise my hackles a bit. And I flat-out love Amazon.

If I find out that it can teach foreign languages, I'm in.

I'm guessing version 2 will have a projector built-in.

I was thinking more like suggested items show up on Amazon. Mentioned movies show up for Prime streaming. Web ads start to be Amazon ads for things you are talking about.

Its similar to how they want to use point of sale technology in brick and mortar stores to link your online shopping habits with your offline shopping habits. Basically they could get a more complete view of what you buy and what you might want to buy.

They were also working on a predictive delivery system earlier in the year where they would ship out items that they anticipated you were going to purchase even before you completed a transaction. This could help with that.

Sad that you can't tell. I thought the exact same thing...it almost looks like an SNL skit.

Is this how Skynet gets into our homes and destroys us?
