Advice on bridging a modem?

Have to use the Xfinity modem due to having a telephone. But I want to use a Netgear modem/router as strictly a router. Any links/youtube vids showing exactly how to do this?

Usually when bridging routers you connect them LAN port to LAN port and turn off the one that isn't doing the router functions. Can you log into the Xfinity to see if you can make it strictly a modem? Does the Netgear have a WAN port, or only LAN ports? Model numbers would be helpful.

The 2 need to be connected LAN to LAN, then log into your router and ensure that DHCP is checked.This is what's going to assign ips to all devices that jump into the network. Then log into the bridge and ensure DHCP is turned off on that one.

I did this last week, and it was easy, but I was bridging two netgear devices. I'm sure it's the same principle with the xfinity.

My last Xfinity modem/router combo had to be bridged by Comcast; it wasn't something I could do myself.

I simply called their tech support number, told them what I needed to do and they did it. That was several years ago, so they may have made it easier in the years since.

I have a Netgear AC1750 WiFi Cable Modem Router MOdel C6300. It had the Xfinity approved stamp on the box. The back has a USB port, a coax port, and 4 identical ethernet ports.
Hopefully I don't have to call Comcast but if it comes to that I've actually been pleasantly surprised with their customer service recently.

Have you tried logging into the Xfinity router to see what settings you can change?

I wonder if you can go cable from wall to Netgear router, then LAN to LAN from the Netgear to the Xfinity modem to get the phone to work.

Another option may be splitting the cable from the wall to feed both modems, then only use the Netgear to supply internet to the rest of your house.

Either way, you may need to call and give them the MAC address of your Netgear box.
