Will be purchasing my first 4k/ Ultra HD television. I currently have Directv. Are there many 4k channels/ contents available to justify buying 4k technology now?

They don't even have 1080p channels. Just some movies.

I don't think Direct has any channels yet, but you can stream some 4K from Netflix and Amazon and other sources.
CNET recommends choosing a 4K TV despite little available content because manufacturers put their best stuff inside the 4K models.
I just bought a Sony 4K, and it has a nice picture on all sources.

Network/OTA television is at best 720p/1080i, there are no 1080p (live) channels and definitely not any 4k channels. Many providers are starting to offer 4k boxes to play their own on demand/pay 4k content...but you still have 4k netflix and 4k amazon. Amazon has a little more in 4k but it's still very limited at the moment between both.
You can rent 4k movies through some services but they are certainly not cheap (compared to 1080p movies). Youtube has PLENTY of 4k videos out there though.
It's still smart to buy a 4k tv now if you're going to invest in a long term tv because more and more content will be out over time. Dont expect live television to go 4k any time in the next decade though. It's going to take significant bandwidth upgrades just to get to 1080p.
Word of warning - if you plan to stream any 4k content make sure you have at least a 20-25mbps internet connection and expect to destroy your data cap if it's fairly low. 4k streaming can take about 7 gigs per hour.

After reading a lot on the subject, I still can't decide what to do
My budget is essentially a 60" 4K Vizio or a 65" 1080p Samsung. I just can't bring myself to spend more than that on a television.

i work in the pay tv business and heres where we currently stand
AT&T/DIRECTV will be the first to launch because they have the most bandwidth. directv launched their 4k satellite back in the spring and its ready to roll
problem now is that no stations are broadcasting in 4k, therefore you wont see it on directv until they do.
ive heard a rumor that directv will be launching a 4k channel with movies, etc in Q1 2016
for now, its just netflix and amazon/hulu for pure 4k content
