Obviously written before Gus Poyet became our coach. Absolutely no way someone would write that about Sunderland now.....
Eta:glad to see SCH going back to his standby troll.

Are you implying that Sunderland is not going to be in the relegation mix?
Y'all had a great run to finish the season, but I kinda expect it to be business as usual with a fight between Hull, Leichester, West Ham, and WBA.

It was a joke dude.
I think it'll be another year of his 4-3-3 growing before the mid table finishes become a little easier. At least there seems to be a clear cut vision with the entire club from the team all the way down to the academy now under him and Congerton.

I was half trolling.
I think y'all are on the right track.
Hopefully Wickham and Fletcher can start out strong this year, and y'all could surprise a lot of people.

If you are working class and love to get hammered at a pub and talk about that state title you almost won, or how great the old days were until the economy tanked...
Leeds United is the club for you.

I think Gus has realized pretty quickly that there was a big time cultural problem within the club. A lot of the locals seem to think that it was a pretty heavy get paid and go the pubs type thing, a lot of chiefs and not enough Indians as well. Congerton seemed to be very well respected within the Chelsea organization and has been very straightforward about growing the academy and teaching Poyet's system throughout.
It's going to take some time and a couple of good signings but I agree I think the arrow is pointing up for sure. No reason a team with decent resources (owner, stadium, academy, fair amount of money) should have to scrape the bottom every year unless there are issues throughout the club. I think DiCanio recognized this as well but he was a legitimate lunatic and didn't have the organizational skills GP seems to have.

If you drink Miller Lite for the value and have no complaints, your team is: Everton

People from Rural Minnesota drink High Life like its their job so this is duplicative, I guess they get Newcastle and Everton as a package deal

Tottenham Hotspur is shite.
If you are one who likes to make dumbass investments, they are the team for you.

Best comparison I've seen for Southampton is the Rays. Small market club that develops good young talent. Only difference is Rays fans suck

would never expect to see a rebel flag at a soccer game. Two very different demographics. good find.
They also have "the south will rise again" banners and scarves but I couldn't find a picture.

European ultras use them a lot, or used to, anyway (clubs have cracked down on them).

I remember watching a Champions League game (Seville I think) in 2003 and seeing the Confederate flag for the first time.
At first I thought, Ohh cool someone from the south is at the game, but when I researched it I found out the true reason.
That was an eye opener on perceived old south culture and how we should distance ourselves from it.

The region of Napoli actually has a US Civil War museum (the only one I've ever heard of outside the USA).
Some Southern American general (Wheat, I believe was his name) led a group of American and English volunteers which fought in the Italian Civil War under Garibaldi. According to my memory from the museum, a mixed group of Americans and Italian southern rebels group then followed him to fight for the Confederates in the US Civil War, considering it a common cause.
People in Napoli can still be a lot like American southerners in how emotions run over those past wars and the amount of "rebels" who talk a lot about "the south rising again".
Like all over Europe, there are also punks who just mainly see the flag as "rebellious" and certainly many right wingers who like the racist connotations but there's also a bit more history of it's appropriated symbolism in the area.

Based on reading up on the teams and advice on this board, I've narrowed my choices to Arsenal, Chelsea, or Everton. Beyond that I'll have to watch some matches to see which wins my support.
