What is a feasible way to schedule a 32 team soccer league for 8 months with every team having to play each other at least once. You are looking at damn near 50 matches a year with long road trips. Its just not sustainable for the sport.
Since the playoffs are more important than finishing top of the table (something unique to us), Playing your division home and away each year and the other divisions once is a great idea.
Or you could go the old AL and NL system the MLB had where the two only met in the playoffs

That would be 30 conference games plus 16 more matches. Before the playoffs, Also Cup competitions thrown in there.
Yea no way. The league already has depth issue and being bigger won't help that and to play that many matches you need depth.

Every team doesnt have to play each other every season.
Seems you are getting hung up on still trying to shoehorn European league thinking into the MLS.

being on the euro schedule and following the euro league setup is what most prefer i think

I would like that as well. Its not going to end up that way though. The writing on the wall is pretty clear. There will also never be relegation/promotion.
I suspect somewhere around the 30 club mark will be max amount of franchises.

playing an NFL type schedule is pointless in an 8 month soccer season

If there are 30+ teams the league needs to for sustainability and for the quality of play.

No, we'll just split them like we do with all our sports, which then can generate all sort of conversations and interest in the playoffs, which will be good for the league. It won't ever be straight promotion/relegation.
This is going to be a very American soccer league. We don't need to follow the Europeans because we have different demands. I don't see people calling for Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico to change their league structure to be like the Europeans, and all three of those leagues produce excellent players and teams.

that still does not address the issue of diluting the quality of play by having to many teams.

As the league grows in revenue are you saying that there are not enough good players in the world that could come into the MLS?
You are just running around in circular logic at this point looking for reasons why not being like the European leagues is "bad" and wont work. Ignoring every logical argument made int his thread.

True, South America has a weird, Fall/Spring season deal going on, why can't we have NFL style divisions and conferences since the champion is determined by a playoff?

We can. There is no reason why we cant. Some people just cant/refuse to look outside the box.

There are only so many top quality players in the world and would still be fighting with the top leagues in the world. Adding a bunch of teams making the league to big does hurt the quality.

I didn't say anything of the sort other than promotion relegation and even said you made some good points. But you are ignoring my very logical points as well

thats just absurd though for soccer
you can't say hey we are a top 5 league with world class players but o yea these world class players might not face off vs each other every year.
Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot for tv viewers esp around the world which is going to be key for the league to truly bring in the revenue to be one of the best.

This just isnt a good argument. If we are talking about heavily restricting teams to maintain high levels of homegrown players, maybe, but if we are just talking about talent in general? No, if the league grows in revenue to allow for transfers of talent into the MLS then keeping the current level of talent wont be an issue at all.

There you go looking through your euro glasses again.

yea just look at the NHL, which is already the best league in the world has flirted with contraction bc people think the quality of play is suffering.

That just flat out wrong. There is a reason the top leagues only have 20 or so teams. Leagues the MLS still has to compete with.

How so? you bring up tv revenue and i say by not having your marquee players face off is shooting yourself in the foot.
The MLS will very much need world wide big money tv contracts to compete with the likes of the EPL and La Liga.

Why, because you say so? The MLS isnt competing with top leagues for talent now. There is a lot more middling talent floating around the world than you are admitting.
Speaking of who the MLS has to "Compete" with...
The MLS has to compete with the NFL,NHL,MLB and NBA. YOU STILL CANT SEE THIS and its hilarious and what people have been trying to point out to you for a couple of pages.

Because the NFL has this problem...so does college football...like I said, you are looking through your euro glasses and will not even acknowledge this. This is an American league with American dynamics.
