Fellaini doesn't belong on a squad like United's. Theoretically (this is only theoretical because they have been playing shite soccer), their soccer is too polished for him. He's odd in the fact that he isn't great anywhere in the midfield - not a destroyer, not a passer, and not a creator. He was best for Everton when utilized as somewhat of a second striker, where he was able to bully opposing defenses on the ground and in the air, making his biggest contributions on set pieces. He's a big physical presence, and he could draw defenders and create space for whoever he was playing behind.
Again, the proof is in the pudding. He was always a "last resort" purchase by Moyes, who knows him best. He chased a handful of other midfielders, letting Fellaini's buyout clause expire, subsequently resulting in Everton putting a higher price on his head than his buyout was when Moyes finally came a callin'.
