He is only 19 or so. He should get better in due time, but he is still a kid.

As of now, I do not think he is playing well in some German regional league.

Pretty much.

Went out on a bad loan deal and saw almost no playing time. He's back at Bayern, but right now no one sees him having any future there in the first team.

He's still young, but he needs to be getting minutes of top flight soccer.

Well, he went back to the same team he was on before, the Bayern Munich youth team. But he's not viewed as a super bright prospect anymore there, it seems like.

Everyone's (read this as reactionary USMNT supporters) ready to write this kid off when every sign points to his loan deal being an absolute disaster due to the shitty state of the club he went on loan to.

He's not the godsend that everyone wanted him to be, but I have faith that if he can learn not to get knocked off the ball so easily, he could be a pretty good player for us. He shows quality when he's not thinking so much, which is a huge mental issue but still repairable. I think between Bayern and USMNT supporters, we set this kid up for failure.

Zelalem is in the same boat if we raise expectations too high. We're a fledgling soccer nation desperate for our World Class superstar, but we can't put this hype on every good prospect. Julian Green and Gedion Zelalem could easily end up doing great things for us if we let them develop and stay reasonable. Some people can handle that hype, but it'll easily destroy even the most confident of players if they're not ready for it.
