Will there be any new call ups for camp?
Do you think there is any chance Brooks Lennon at least gets a call for camp? I know he's young but it couldn't hurt . Lletget is hurt but I feel Lennon could give Arriola a run for his money . He's wickedly accurate on crosses and has all the athleticism and workrate you'd want in a winger.

I don't think we'll start seeing a true youth movement until after this World Cup.

Miazga, Lennon, Hyndman, etc. should all start getting serious looks after the tournament.

What would a hypothetical 11 look like for Russia if you guys were guessing today?

I think McKinnie will have a better chance to be called up than Lennon.

If we're playing a team that has quality:

4-2-3-1

Howard
Yedlin-Besler-Brooks-Villafana
Bradley-Cameron
Fab-Pulisic-Nagbe
Jozy

When we're playing a team where we can control possession:

4-4-2 diamond

Howard
Yedlin-Cameron-Brooks-Villafana
Fab-Bradley-Nagbe
Pulisic
Jozy-Wood

Asking Johnson to play both wing positions?

ITT: U-17 circle jerkers.

For a WCQ we really need to win?

No, we won't be calling in youth academy prospects to win a fricking World Cup Qualifier.

Yep, I think for these last 2 WCQ camps we're not going to see anybody make their USMNT debut/long-awaited comeback. Bruce knows who he can rely on at this point, so no reason to mess with that formula by bringing in an unknown with how important these games are.

Assuming we qualify without needing the playoff, then we could see some new faces (McKennie) or some experiments (Williams) during the November friendlies or even later in January Camp or March and April friendlies.

Remember, DeAndre Yedlin didn't make his USMNT debut until the 2014 January Camp, while John Brooks and Aron Bacon didn't file for one-time switches until August of 2013 and Brooks never even appeared in a WCQ that cycle.

There's still time to find new discoveries, but it's not worth risking them taking up a roster spot in an important WCQ camp just to get their feet wet.

We can theoretically qualify against Honduras. If that happens, we may see some new(er) faces in October.

I don't think so, because even if we win both of our matches and Honduras and Panama lose both of their matches in September, that means Trinidad won both of its matches and they'd still be 5 points behind us with 2 matches left.

Yeah, I don't think Bruce will get experimental again until we qualify, but I expect he'll give some young guys a look in the 2018 friendlies if they warrant one.

I'm pretty confident we can steal a win in Honduras this time. Their team is in a complete shambles right now, on both sides of the ball. They didn't score once in four Gold Cup games. They want to fire Pinto, but can't afford to fork over his severance fee if he doesn't finish the cycle, so they're kind of stuck with him.

I don't think we need Honduras to lose both. If we win both of our games, beating Honduras and Honduras beats or draws T&T, we're at least 6 points ahead of Honduras with a big GD advantage.

Just did the math on the next 2 games. There's a scenario where:

US 14
Honduras 8
Panama 7
T&T 6

Panama loses to TT and Mexico, Honduras beats TT. US qualifies with 1 point in last 2 games or unless Honduras can't make up the GD. Honduras would have to beat both Mexico and Costa Rica in October.

US 14
Panama 7
Honduras 6
T&T 4

Panama loses to TT and Mexico, Honduras draws TT. US automatically qualifies in this scenario (2 games left, 7 points clear of 4th.)

Everything about that seems possible except Panama losing to Trinidad in Panama. Regardless, if we get 6 points in September, we can go ahead and make reservations for Russia.

Even if TT can draw Panama, that keeps us 6 points ahead of 4th place going into the final 2 games.
