I thought Mexico was going to be part of this.

Mexico City is there, just plug in Monterrey or Guadalajara for Dallas, Houston, Austin, Phoenix depending on how much responsibility Mexico wants

But yeah. I assume they'd want more responsibility than just a couple venues.

No chance they hand out 3 additional autobids to go along with that. Could you imagine 9 CONCACAF teams in the WC

I think they would just consider the US, Canada, and Mexico part of the 6, leaving 3 or 4 spots open.

I just don't see the benefit of bringing Mexico along.

Will it be setup so the hosts can play in their own countries? Any bid which requires we play games in Mexico is shite. At least we can expect a more friendly crowd in Canada.

Our group matches should be in the US, but the knockouts will probably be everywhere. Which is why this will probably turn into a logistical nightmare. Who wants to play a match in D.C, then New York, then Miami, then Guadalajara, then Vancouver, and then maybe in Mexico City?

For 2002, the Japan and Korean sides were basically separate tournaments until the 3rd place game/final. I don't think that's realistic here since there's no way we will all be hosting the same number of games.

I think that logistically it'd be best to have half the group stage games in the US (due to the sheer size of America and amount of our stadiums, plus you'd make the most money that way) and Canada/Mexico split the other half.

For the round of 16 (or whatever it'll be with all the extra teams) through the quarterfinals you should have it being 2-3 each (everyone gets the same amount of games)

At the semis you could either play one in Azteca & the other in Vancouver, with the final being in LA
Or
Play the semis in LA/Vancouver and give the final to Azteca.

I'd hate for America to miss out on getting the final, but going one of those two routs for semis/final seems the most fair.

Mexico knows damn well there's no way they get any part of the World Cup without a joint US bid, so they better not even think of taking our final.

The Final would probably be in the Rose Bowl again

we have so many better stadiums now than we did in 1994...

L.A. will have a new football stadium before then for one... also JerryWorld and MetLife and probably the new Redskins Stadium and Raiders Stadium will be better stadiums

Just officially announced at the presser. 75% of the games (60 out of 80) will be in the USA. Then 10 each for Mexico and Canada.

That's basically 100% guaranteed to be approved by FIFA. CONCACAF is due to host anyways, and the 3 biggest nations combining for a bid should make everyone happy.

I'm OK with this as long as we don't play any games in Mexico before the knockout round. That would be bullshite, and FIFA would be stupid to not let each home nation play at home as much as possible.

60 out of 80 sounds good to me. They just better not give the final to Mexico

All games starting in the Quarterfinals will be in the US.

So the final will be in the US.

"Important - FIFA council will approve but ultimately the position is very clear in this process. They want Canada in as automatic hosts." - Someone on twitter

Montagliani (CAN): We haven't discussed surfaces. "Every men's WC has been on grass. We assume this will be the same." Says FIFA's call.
